I'm going to the hill next week. I would like to put my dad and little nephew on some stripers, but I will need a lot of help. We are staying in a campground close to the dam (not sure of the name of the campground). Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.

your in a good area for Hybrids and a few stripers mixed in... are you staying on the Georgia side or SC side... Either way you will have to get your bait on the SC side just south of the dam at the Herring hut. get 2-4 dozen ($6.00 dz) and keep em alive (20gallon-50gallon aireated tank) and fish double anchored on main channel points or humps in 30-60ft of water. the bite has been strong here lately.. You can fish a couple rods with live herring down 20-30ft and the rest cut bait style like catfishin.... put the live herring on the hook.... cut off his tail and chunk him out on the bottom... he stays alive long enough to spread the blood scent in the water and he doesn't swim around and tie you carolina rig in knots!! good luck!!! The owner of the herring hut is a life long guide for stripers and hybrids... he will be more than glad to share general areas to start and tech.

Thanks Rob! I am staying on the ga side. I was planning on fishing early in the morning and late in the evening. Is that a good plan, or should I fish at night, or some other time?

the bite seems to be rite when the sun is coming up and before the sun is setting thru the night.... mid morning on humps off the main river channel will do the job as well...

O.K. Thanks a lot. I'll let you know how we do! I just returned from Clarks Hill. We fished before day light. 5:00am and were back to the dock before the sun comes up. If you can afford it charter with Capt William Sasser at the Herring hut. First class guide, first class service and all around nice guy. This was my first time with a guide on the lake, but was a great way to start the week. You can see the picture of my daughters and me on his website. I fished some at night and only caught a few cats. I had better luck slow trolling in the main creek channels, Keg, Soap, Little river, in about 30' of water. Enjoy |

Anyone want to know about the Hybrid/Stripper Fishing on Clarks Hill go to the Clarks Hill Herring Hut. My Buddy Albert Moody runs it. He is a huge Jolly man who knows how to catch em! its on the carolina side. do a google search. He is awesome.

Everyone at the herrin hut is very nice and helpful. Unfortantly we were unable to catch any fish, only fished one evening. Thanks for the advice Rob.
